St. James Lutheran Church Champions 18th NLLD Sports Fest

The NLLD Sportsfestival started in 1999, and one of the pioneers or founders is the Rev. James Cerdeñola. Since then, he continued sharing his time, talent and treasure in this activity every year.

Intended to promote camaraderie among Lutheran and non-Lutheran members, the Lutheran Church in the Philippines, North Luzon Lowland District (NLLD) spearheaded the 18th Lutheran Sports Fest which was held at Christ Lutheran Church, Moreno, Binalonan, Pangasinan on May 29- June 2, 2017.

Over 300 delegates from different circuits of the Lowland and Highland Districts with some visitors from the South Luzon District participated in the highly spirited event. A total of 13 major competitions was organized ranging from basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, dart, chess, scrabble, running events, Bible Quiz, photojournalism, poster making, literary musical, and Mr. & Ms. Sportsfest.

The delegates from St. James Lutheran Church (Pangasinan 2) emerged as the overall champion, while Cagayan was hailed as second, and Ilocos Sur as third. Other participating teams are Ilocos Norte, North Luzon Highland District, Isabela, Redeemer Lutheran Church (Pangasinan 3), and Christ Lutheran Church (Pangasinan 1)

The event with the theme: “God is Our Mighty Fortress.” (Psalm 46:1) was funded by the collective effort of all participating teams with some financial support from anonymous donors. Future plans are being discussed to further improve and expand the entire Lutheran Sports Fest  with the help of generous sponsors.

Mr. Genmar Pizarro is the North Luzon Lowland District Lay Representative to the LCP-BD. He was also a former district youth president of NLLD and an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Centro West, Ballesteros, Cagayan.
